RODA Wing woven garden screen and divider
RODA Wing is a freestanding screen that turns part of a garden or terrace into a room. Rodolfo Dordoni framed it in stainless steel and filled the frame with a rhythmic weave of flat belts. There are three pieces: a vertical screen, a horizontal one and a vertical extension that joins on to make a longer wall. It works beside any collection of RODA patio furniture.
Woven garden screens
A wall made of belts
A screen lets a family shape an outdoor space the way walls shape a house. Set two Wing panels at an angle and a reading chair gets its own corner. Put a row of them along a property line and the dining table is out of the neighbors' view. Hotels and restaurants use screens the same way, to give guests some privacy or to hide the service side of a terrace. Wing also stands on its own as a decorative piece.
The vertical screen is about 47 1/4 inches wide and 72 inches tall. The horizontal version turns those proportions on their side, about 72 inches long and 48 1/4 inches high, low enough to sit behind a sofa without blocking the view over it. Both stand on a footprint about 15 3/4 inches deep. The extension screen matches the vertical one and links to it, so the length of the wall can grow in steps.
The frame is stainless steel with a powder coated finish in smoke, milk or rust. Stainless steel resists corrosion, and the coating adds a second layer of protection near a pool or the sea. The weave uses belts about 1 inch wide in polyester or acrylic, offered in gray, sand, brown, tobacco, blue, olive, orange and sky, plus recycled belts in clay, mint, rose, stone and teal. Because the belts are woven with small gaps, some air and light pass through the panel.
With so many colors, Wing can disappear into a planting scheme or become the one strong color on a terrace. Dordoni, who has guided RODA's artistic direction since 2005, designed it to coordinate with all of the company's collections, and it extends the range of accessories that RODA offers alongside its seating and tables. Like the seating it stands behind, it is made in Italy by RODA.
