RODA Zania iroko chairs, bar stool and tables

RODA Zania is a compact dining set in iroko wood: an armchair, a bar stool, a square table and a rectangular one. RODA's own studio drew it for hotels and restaurants, where small pieces have to work hard, and the same modest sizes suit a narrow balcony or a kitchen garden at home. Slats and rounded edges run through all four pieces of this RODA furniture family.

Iroko bistro set

Small footprint, warm wood

Iroko is a hardwood with a warm tone, and RODA chose it because it lasts and stands up well to moisture. That makes it a sensible wood for a cafe terrace that sees rain and heavy use. The armchair is made in FSC certified iroko, and the bar stool comes in standard or FSC certified iroko. All pieces share one natural finish, so the wood is left to show its own grain and color.

Everything in the family is built from slats with softened, rounded edges, on the chair seat and back as well as on the table tops. The legs are rounded too, so there are no sharp corners to catch a sleeve or a tablecloth. The armchair is about 22 1/8 inches square in plan and stacks up to four high, a real help for a restaurant that clears its terrace each night.

The square table is about 31 1/2 inches on each side, a bistro size for two. The rectangular table runs about 63 3/8 by 31 1/2 inches. For a bar or a kitchen counter, the stool sets the seat at about 27 2/3 inches. The chair and the stool both take a thin seat cushion made with hydro-draining padding, covered in any fabric from RODA's outdoor list, from Allegro to Shore.

Contract work often means fitting many seats into a tight space, and Zania was sized for that job. The chair stacks and the tables are narrow, so the pieces also move easily between a covered porch and an open patio. Zania is made in Italy by RODA, in a wood that brings warmth to stone and concrete.

Iroko slats with every edge rounded off.
