Teak from table to pool

Teak carries almost the whole collection. The sofa frames, chair frames, table legs and table tops are all solid teak, a dense wood full of natural oils that sits out in rain and sun for years. Left untreated it slowly turns a soft silver gray. Oiled, it keeps a warmer honey tone. The only metal in Levante is a small side table in powder coated stainless steel, finished in smoke.

The dining range is large. Square tables come in about 67 and 88 inches per side, round ones in about 67 and 87 inches across, and two long tables run to about 88 and 118 inches. All stand 29 1/2 inches high. Around them goes the Levante armchair, with a seat near 17 3/4 inches and arms that help when rising from a long lunch.

For lounging there is a two-seater and a three-seater sofa, the second about 105 inches long, plus a matching lounge chair and two low teak coffee tables. By the water, the sunlounger has a back with three positions and stacks up to four high for winter. Its steel side table, under 4 inches tall, holds a glass or a phone within reach. The chaise longue is shorter and has arms, which suits a terrace.

Lissoni kept the lines plain so that the teak reads first. Each piece is Italian outdoor furniture built by RODA near Lake Varese, and the cushions use hydro-draining padding that lets rain run through. A house can start with one table and chairs and add the pool pieces later, since the wood will age to the same gray.

Piero Lissoni

Piero Lissoni, an architect and art director with offices in Milan and New York, is known for precision and simplicity, and Levante shows it in teak pieces drawn with very few lines.
