RODA Mistral teak sofas and sunlounger
Take the teak grid of Network, strip away the shelf built into its backrest, and what is left is RODA Mistral. Rodolfo Dordoni reduced the idea to a frame of straight teak lines and a seat of woven belts. Three sofa sizes and a sunlounger make up the line, a compact choice within RODA patio furniture for a terrace or a pool edge.
Teak and belt sofas
Network, pared back
Mistral grew out of Network, Dordoni's first collection for RODA. Network turns its backrests into shelves for whatever a lounge collects. Mistral drops them and keeps only the frame. The teak runs in straight, even lines around the seat, and the belts fill it like the warp and weft of a cloth, with gaps between them that let the eye through.
Those belts are 45 millimeters wide, in polyester or acrylic with a cotton-like finish. An open belt seat drains at once after rain and never holds a puddle. The cushions on top use hydro-draining padding, and the teak underneath needs no paint or coating: left alone, it weathers to silver gray. Belts come in eight standard colors and five recycled ones, from tobacco and olive to clay and teal.
The sofas are low. The seat frame sits about 11 inches off the ground, with a 4 inch cushion on top, and the depth is about 35 1/2 inches, so they suit reading and dozing more than upright talk. The one-seater is about 40 1/2 inches wide, the three-seater close to 97 1/4. The sunlounger shares the belt seat, and its back reclines to seven positions.
A three-seater with two one-seaters forms a full lounge around a coffee table. A pair of sunloungers finishes the pool side in the same wood and belt color. Dordoni wanted a piece of interior taste set outdoors, and Mistral is made in Italy by RODA with that in mind. The sofas stay out through the season with nothing more than a cover in the worst weeks.
Teak frame, belt seat, nothing added.
