RODA Nap is a single piece: a rocking chair for the garden, designed by Gordon Guillaumier. The seat and back are teak slats, the frame is stainless steel in a dark smoke finish, and thick cushions sit on top. Like the rest of the RODA garden furniture range, it is built to stay outside all season.

Outdoor rocking chair

A rocker for the afternoon

The idea behind Nap goes back to childhood, and the way a slow rocking motion puts a small child to sleep. Nap brings that into a chair for adults. It sways on curved runners, and the proportions are generous: about 25 5/8 inches wide, 36 1/2 inches deep and 34 1/4 inches high, with low arms at about 18 inches for resting a book or a cup.

Two materials share the work. Teak slats, shaped to cradle the body, form the seat and backrest. Teak is oily and dense, so it shrugs off rain, and over time it fades from honey brown to silver gray unless it is oiled. The frame is stainless steel with a powder coat in RODA's smoke color, which guards the metal and keeps the lines dark and quiet against the wood.

The seat cushion is thick, about 4 inches, and the padding is hydro-draining, so water runs out after a storm and the seat dries quickly. The seat itself sits low, near 11 3/8 inches off the ground before the cushion. The cover can be ordered in one of RODA's outdoor fabrics, chosen with the quote.

Nap works on its own in a corner of a porch, under a pergola or next to a fire pit, and two of them facing each other make a small evening spot. It pairs with teak tables from other RODA families. The chair is Italian outdoor furniture, made by RODA near Lake Varese.
