RODA Laze corded lounge and dining chairs
Gordon Guillaumier drew RODA Laze around the outline of a large leaf. Cord is stretched across a stainless steel frame to make the seat and back, and loose cushions rest on top. The family covers three lounge chairs, a wide footstool and two dining chairs, which makes it one of the more flexible sets of RODA garden furniture for a reading corner or a table.

Every Laze piece starts from the same curved frame. Seen from the side, the arms and back sweep up and around like the edge of a leaf, and the cord runs across that shape in close parallel lines. On the lounge chairs it carries seat and back cushions. On the dining pieces the cushion can be for the seat alone, so the woven back stays in view.
The cord is 7 millimeters thick and comes in polyester or in a recycled acrylic yarn. Because the seat is an open weave, air moves under the sitter on a hot afternoon and rain falls straight through. The cushions use hydro-draining padding, so they dry quickly after a shower. Underneath, the stainless steel frame is powder coated in smoke, milk or rust, a finish that protects the metal from sun and damp.
Choice is the point of Laze. The lounge chair comes with a low back or a high back, and there is a rocking version with a slightly lower seat. A footstool about 37 1/2 inches wide lines up with any of them. For the table there is a side chair and an armchair, both with a seat height close to 18 1/2 inches. RODA offers eight standard cord colors and five recycled ones, from olive and tobacco to mint and rose.
Put a pair of high back chairs and the footstool under a tree, or run the dining chairs along a long terrace table and keep one rocker by the door. The frame color and cord color are picked separately, so the same Italian outdoor furniture can look quiet in smoke and sand or bright in milk and orange.
