RODA Tint hand-woven outdoor rug
RODA Tint is an outdoor rug woven by hand on a loom from tinted polypropylene yarn. Maria Gabriella Zecca, who has researched fabrics and rugs for RODA for more than fifteen years, mixed warm and cool threads so the surface never reads as one flat color. It comes in two sizes and two colorways and gives a seating group of RODA outdoor furniture a floor of its own.

Warm and cool yarn together
The color is built in the weave. Yarns dyed in slightly different tones are woven together, and the result is a soft, desaturated surface that changes with the light through the day. There are two versions. Greige mixes gray and beige for a neutral base under wood or pale aluminum, and Blueen, as the name suggests, sits between blue and green, closer to water and planting. A fringe runs along the 3 meter sides.
Polypropylene is a synthetic fiber that takes almost no water into itself, which is why it works on a covered terrace or an open deck. Care is plain. Vacuum it, then rinse it with water, even with a garden hose, and leave it to dry in the air. RODA asks owners not to use a pressure washer, which can damage a hand-woven rug. Dust and pollen come out with a rinse, and the rug goes back down once it is dry.
Two sizes cover most layouts. The smaller rug is 200 by 300 cm, about 6 1/2 by 10 feet, which fits under a sofa and coffee table. The larger is 300 by 400 cm, about 10 by 13 feet, wide enough for a full lounge group or a dining table with its chairs. The same rug can also move indoors for the winter, where it looks as settled in a living room as it does on a patio.
Zecca wanted a rug that blends into the ground outdoors instead of standing out on it, and that still looks right inside. RODA, an Italian outdoor furniture company from Gavirate, designs the rug and has it woven by hand in regions that specialize in carpet weaving, under a socially responsible production that excludes child labor.
