RODA Estendo modular aluminum sofa and coffee tables
In Italian, estendo means I extend, and RODA Estendo does exactly that. Luca Pevere designed a sofa that grows from a single seat to a long run around a corner. Twenty-two sofa elements and two coffee tables share one aluminum profile, so pieces line up straight or form an L. As RODA outdoor furniture goes, it is built for long walls and awkward corners.

A sofa that keeps extending
Estendo is sold as complete one-, two- and three-seater sofas and as loose modules: right, left and central seats in each width, a square corner, chaise longue ends, daybed ends and terminal pieces. Two long profiles hold everything together, one along the front under the seat and one along the top of the back. Retractable die-cast aluminum joints link neighboring modules, so a sofa can be lengthened later without swapping what is already there.
Frames are powder coated aluminum in smoke or milk, and the seat slats are polypropylene reinforced with fiberglass. Neither rusts, which matters by a pool or on a coastal deck. The cushions are hydro-draining and dry fast after a shower. Seat height is 14 1/2 inches and depth is 33 1/4 inches, a low lounge posture, with arms at 26 5/8 inches where a module has them.
Two terminal modules finish in a flat top of gres or stone, giving the end of the sofa a surface for a glass or a book. The same tops go on the coffee tables, a rectangle about 29 1/2 by 33 1/2 inches and a round one 43 1/4 inches across, both 9 3/8 inches high. Stone comes as Luna, Carrara marble or Farsena, and gres in a natural finish. Neither stains easily.
Pevere kept the lines straight and the profile thin, so a long composition along a wall or a pool edge still looks light. Estendo is made in Italy by RODA, with cushion covers from twenty RODA fabrics, from Allegro and Dew to Duna and Spiga. A small first purchase, say a two-seater and a round table, can grow into a corner sofa once the terrace is finished.
