Deep cushions on teak

Each base is a teak box only 8 5/8 inches high with a seat 37 3/8 inches deep. With its cushion in place the seat lands at 15 3/4 inches, low and wide, made for lounging. The one-seater is square. The two- and three-seater bases stretch to roughly 74 7/8 and 112 1/4 inches, and the hexagon measures 89 3/4 by 53 1/8 inches. Batyline mesh or padded belts carry the hydro-draining cushions.

Teak comes natural or with a weather resistant white finish that RODA calls WR. Natural teak left unoiled weathers to a silver gray over a few seasons. The WR finish keeps the wood pale and adds protection against sun and rain. The coffee table, 37 3/8 inches square, has a slatted top in the same wood, and the gaps between the slats let rain drain away.

Backs are separate pieces: thin frames of powder coated stainless steel in smoke or milk. One version is strung with Batyline in six colors, from sand to navy. The other carries padded belts in gray-blue or gray-sand, or recycled belts in clay and stone. A short back also works as an armrest, so an Eden sofa can face one direction or stay open on both sides.

The hexagon was new for RODA when Eden came out. On its own it is a broad island for a lawn. Set between two straight modules, it bends the sofa around a wide angle, softer than a square corner. Dordoni gave the whole family unusual depth in the cushions, and it is Italian outdoor furniture meant for long afternoons by the pool.

Rodolfo Dordoni, who began with RODA in 2005 on a single collection and went on to lead its artistic direction, pushed Eden toward depth and modularity, with an odd hexagon among the square pieces.
