RODA Stresa aluminum sofas, chairs and dining tables
RODA Stresa is named for the town on Lake Maggiore known for its arcades and lakeside gardens. Piero Lissoni took the old idea of metal garden seating and redrew it in aluminum, then built a full family around it: sofas, lounge chairs, dining armchairs, poufs, coffee tables and a dining table in two lengths. One finish, smoke, runs through every frame of this RODA outdoor furniture family.

Diamonds in the backrest
The detail people notice first is the backrest. It is a sheet of aluminum punched with rows of small diamonds, so the back looks light from across a garden and a breeze can pass through it. The effect is strongest on the lounge chair, which comes with a standard back or a high back that rises to about 39 inches. Under every seat, a slatted base carries the cushions and lets rainwater fall straight to the ground.
All the structural parts are aluminum, powder coated in smoke. For a house on the coast or a pool deck this is the practical choice: aluminum does not rust, the coating protects the metal from sun and weather, and the frame can be recycled at the end of its life. The cushions use hydro-draining padding, so a summer storm runs out of them instead of soaking in. RODA covers them in its own range of outdoor fabrics, from Allegro to Shore.
Table tops are gres, a dense porcelain stoneware that takes hot dishes and spilled wine without marking, offered in sand, mole or lead. The dining table comes 220 or 280 cm long, roughly 86 3/4 or 110 1/4 inches, and can also take a wavy glass top in fern, navy or paprika. The pouf system is the part to study. A single or double pouf can hold a coffee table top, so one piece serves as a low table one evening and as a seat for two the next.
Lissoni meant Stresa to travel between settings: a private villa, a hotel terrace, a city rooftop or a Mediterranean garden. The lines are plain and the proportions calm, so the set sits as comfortably beside old stone paving as beside a glass facade. It is Italian outdoor furniture, built by RODA a short drive from the lake that gave the collection its name.
