RODA Pier slatted teak dining table
RODA Pier is a long dining table made of teak slats, designed by Rodolfo Dordoni. The slats run the length of the top, then turn down at each end to become the legs, so the wood reads as one line from floor to floor. Two lengths are made. Among RODA patio furniture it is one of the plainest pieces, and it suits a covered porch as well as an indoor dining room.

Dordoni compared the top to a keyboard. The teak slats lie side by side with narrow gaps between them, and at each end they bend over the edge and drop to the ground. There is no apron and no visible corner joint, only the fold of the wood. Teak and powder coated steel share the structural work, which lets a top this long stay straight and flat.
Pier 025 measures about 97 7/8 by 39 3/8 inches. Pier 030 has the same depth and stretches to about 119 1/4 inches. Both stand 29 1/2 inches high with roughly 26 3/8 inches of clearance under the top. Because the legs sit at the very ends, the longer table leaves about 105 inches of open side between them, so chairs can line both long edges without anyone sitting against a leg.
RODA recommends a roof over Pier, on a porch or a veranda, to keep the table stable over the years. Teak handles outdoor air well, but long slats left in hard rain and full sun can move as the wood takes in and releases moisture. Under cover the grain ages slowly, and if the top is never oiled it drifts from honey brown toward silver gray. A light oiling from time to time holds the warmer tone.
Pier comes without a matching chair. RODA presents it as a table that works with many kinds of outdoor seating, woven or aluminum, and it carries indoors just as easily, where a wood or stone floor suits it. This is Italian outdoor furniture reduced to one material and one gesture, set at a height for long lunches that run into the afternoon.
