The director's chair is an old classic, and RODA Orson gives it a curved teak frame and a sling of Batyline. Gordon Guillaumier designed the family: two director chairs, a lower director lounge chair, a matching stool and a teak sunlounger. It is RODA garden furniture with deep traditional roots, reworked with softer lines and careful joinery.

Teak folding chairs

The director's chair, in teak

The chairs fold, like any director's chair, which makes them easy to carry to the lawn or store in a shed in winter. Their teak frames follow gentle curves at the arms and legs, and the seat and back are stretched Batyline, a coated mesh that dries fast and needs no cushion. RODA likes to say the chairs look dressed for an evening out.

Batyline slings come in six colors: gray, sand, olive, navy, ginger and sky. Teak stays constant. Left outside without oil, it slowly turns a soft silver gray, which suits the canvas-like look of the slings. The dining height chair has a seat of about 18 1/2 inches and arms near 24 3/4 inches, while the director lounge chair sits lower and wider, with a stool of the same width to go with it.

The sunlounger is solid teak, about 78 3/4 inches long, with a back that sets in six positions and a hydro-draining cushion that sheds rain. Its lines match the chairs, so a pool deck and a dining terrace can share one family. Guillaumier shaped the frame for support along the back, so it stays comfortable through a long afternoon.

Orson is Italian outdoor furniture for people who like a classic garden look without heavy upholstery. Two director chairs and a small table make a reading spot. Six around a dining table cover a summer lunch, and they fold flat when the season ends. The sunlounger then joins them under cover, or stays out to weather with the rest of the teak.
