RODA Brick extendable teak dining table with a brick-pattern top, Italian outdoor furniture by Gordon Guillaumier

RODA Brick extendable teak dining table

The top of RODA Brick is laid like a wall: short blocks of teak in staggered rows, every joint lined up with the pattern. Gordon Guillaumier designed it as a long extendable dining table with legs turned slightly inward, and it comes in two lengths. It is the centerpiece kind of RODA garden furniture, sized for long lunches with a crowd.

Teak laid like brickwork

Brick 004 is about 94 inches long and opens to roughly 142 inches. Brick 002 starts near 118 inches and opens to around 165, close to 14 feet. Both are about 39 inches deep and stand at normal dining height. The extension uses a butterfly system, where the extra section folds inside the table and swings out when more guests arrive.

Everything is teak, top and frame. Teak holds up outdoors thanks to its natural oils, and left unoiled it turns a soft silver gray over time. Because the top is built from many small blocks, RODA is frank about one thing: in full sun and rain the pieces can shift slightly. That movement is natural to the wood and does not affect how the table works, but the factory recommends a porch or a covered veranda to keep it stable.

The legs are rotated a little toward the center, which makes the ends feel open and draws people to pull up a chair. On a table this long the geometric sequence of joints becomes the main decoration, and the warm grain of the teak does the rest. Brick received an honorable mention at the XXIV Compasso d'Oro in 2016.

Brick asks for room: a covered terrace, a pool house, or a garden dining area under a pergola with a solid roof. Teak or rope dining chairs from other RODA families sit well around it, and the wood ties them together. It is made in Italy in natural teak, the only finish offered, and built to order in either length.

About 14 feet of teak blocks, set like a wall.
